Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba “An impressive work of mythic magnitude that may turn out to be Stephen King’s greatest literary achievement” (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution), The Gunslinger is the first volume in the epic Dark Tower Series.A #1 national bestseller, The Gunslinger introduces readers to one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations, Roland of Gilead: The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which mirrors our own in frightening ways, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake. Inspired in part by the Robert Browning narrative poem, “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came,” The Gunslinger is “a compelling whirlpool of a story that draws one irretrievable to its center” (Milwaukee Sentinel). It is “brilliant and fresh and will leave you panting for more” (Booklist).

The beginning of my favorite series. This genre of western-scifi-thriller is so unique and enthralling. King creates a whole multiverse for these characters that bleeds over into many of his other works. It’s a story of epic adventure with hardships, time travel, victories, and defeats. The characters are engaging and personable as usual. Definitely a must-read from the King collection.

Unprecedentedely excellent! Stephen King starts off his self-proclaimed magnum opus series with an intriguing, exciting, and beautiful book, which does better than most first chapters do to draw the reader into the enchanting, gargantuan world that he has created. One of my most awaited reads yet, King does not disappoint in the slightest, constantly latching the reader from word to word as if his or her eyes are on a conveyor belt of splendid goodness.

Expected more I have mixed feelings about this book. It started off very slow and was boring. A little would happen then there would be a long back story. Then again a little and another back story thats longer than what’s actually happening. Eventually it got better and I’m curious enough to read the next book in the series. I wish myself good luck.

Disappointed this is digital only. I came here via an email from Google, giving me a $5 credit to buy a book. I came here all excited to pick this up to complete my collection of the series. (My original copy got ruined during a move). No other books on here really drew my attention. Either I’ve already read them, or I have no interest Guess I’ll have to keep on looking.
